Frequently Asked Questions

BitVoicer Server

TogglerI developed an application and I would like to integrate it with BitVoicer Server. Is that possible?
Yes, it is possible. BitVoicer Server exposes Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) services that enable integration with many development platforms. In addition, the BitVoicer Server installation package contains an integration library for .NET developers. Further information about BitVoicer Server integration can be found in the product documentation.
TogglerHow many devices can I connect to BitVoicer Server simultaneously?
BitVoicer Server does not impose explicit limits regarding the number of devices you can connect simultaneously to the server. This number varies mostly as a function of the available hardware resources rather than the technical limitations of the software.
TogglerWhat kind of device can be used as a BitVoicer Server client?
Any electronic device that has a programmable microcontroller with a serial or TCP/IP communication interface, regardless of the microcontroller manufacturer, can be a BitVoicer Server client. The standard communication protocol between BitVoicer Server and client devices is the BitVoicer Server Protocol (BVSP). All technical specifications of this protocol are available in the product documentation, and they can be implemented on any programmable microcontroller.
TogglerCan I use the computer’s audio adapter to capture and reproduce audio?
Yes, through the BitVoicer Server Manager you can add the computer’s audio adapter as an input and/or output device. In this case, the communication between BitVoicer Server and the audio adapter is managed by the operating system and no implementation of the BitVoicer Server Protocol is required.
TogglerCan I install BitVoicer Server on Linux or on a Raspberry Pi?
Currently, Linux and the Raspberry Pi do not have the necessary resources to support BitVoicer Server. Please check our website for possible future developments in this area.
TogglerWhen I try to activate my Product Keys in the BitVoicer Server Manager I get the following error message: “Connecting to BitSophia ... Failed!” What is happening?
In most cases, this error is related to non-supported proxy settings, or computer or network firewalls. We recommend you disable all proxies in the Windows network settings (Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Internet --> Internet Options --> Connections tab --> LAN Settings --> disable the proxy server and enable “Automatically detect settings”) and make sure Windows and network firewalls are not blocking BitVoicer Server Manager access to the Internet. If the error persists, it may be that the BitSophia’s servers are temporarily unavailable. If the error persists for a long period of time, please contact us at support@bitsophia.com.

BitVoicer

TogglerI developed an application and I would like to integrate it with BitVoicer. Is that possible?
Unfortunately it is not possible. BitVoicer does not support integration with other applications. To integrate speech recognition resources with your application, you must use BitVoicer Server. BitVoicer Server exposes Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) services that enable integration with many development platforms. In addition, the BitVoicer Server installation package contains an integration library for .NET developers. Further information about BitVoicer Server integration can be found in the product documentation.
TogglerCan I install BitVoicer on Linux or on a Raspberry Pi?
Currently Linux and the Raspberry Pi do not have the necessary resources to support BitVoicer. Please check our website for possible future developments in this area.
TogglerBitVoicer recognizes a sentence, but it does not send any command to my microcontroller. It only shows the following message: “Error: unable to create command data.” How can I fix this error?
This error occurs in two situations: when a command related to an anagram is empty; or when a sentence item contains unnecessary blank spaces. To fix the error, make sure each anagram has a valid command and remove all extra blank spaces at the beginning and at the end of all sentence items.
TogglerWhen I start the speech recognition, BitVoicer shows the following error message: “Error: unable to open serial port”. What is wrong?
Make sure no other program is trying to access the same serial port at the same time. Also make sure the serial port name is correct in the preferences. Serial ports are named using the following pattern: “COMXX”; where XX is the serial port number (e.g. COM3, COM10, COM65, etc.).
TogglerBitVoicer shows the message “Cannot find the requested data item, such as a data key or value” when I start the speech recognition. What does it mean?
It means BitVoicer is failing to identify the computer’s audio adapter. Make sure the audio adapter is correctly installed and active in the Windows Device Manager. You should also make sure you have the most recent version of all device drivers. If you are using a desktop computer with Windows 8 or 10, connect a microphone to the audio adapter before you start the speech recognition.
TogglerThe Calibration Tool in the Preferences form always shows 0 (zero) in “Samples per Second” and “invalid” in “Reference Audio Level”. What does it mean?
It means BitVoicer is not receiving any data in the serial port or in the TCP/IP interface. Check if the microcontroller is really sending data through the communication interface in use.
TogglerThe value in “Reference Audio Level” in the Calibration Tool never gets around 127/128 or it stays locked at 0 or 255. What is causing this behavior?
In general, this behavior is caused by an invalid reference voltage at the microcontroller analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Make sure you are providing the appropriate reference voltage for the ADC and the microphone you are using.
TogglerWhen I try to activate BitVoicer I get the following error message: “Unable to connect to BitSophia” What is happening?
In most cases, this error is related to non-supported proxy settings, or computer or network firewalls. We recommend you disable all proxies in the Windows network settings (Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Internet --> Internet Options --> Connections tab --> LAN Settings --> disable the proxy server and enable “Automatically detect settings”) and make sure Windows and network firewalls are not blocking BitVoicer access to the Internet. If the error persists, maybe the BitSophia’s servers are temporarily unavailable. If the error persists for a long time, please contact us at support@bitsophia.com.

Licensing

TogglerI developed a device or an application that uses BitVoicer Server. Can I distribute BitVoicer Server with my device or application?
Yes, BitSophia authorizes you to distribute BitVoicer Server with devices and application you develop. However, to be entitled to use this authorization, you must strictly comply with all terms and conditions described in the BitVoicer Server License Agreement.
TogglerIf I format my computer, will I be able to use the same Product Key on this computer?
Yes, you will. However, before you activate the Product Key again, make sure all device drivers are correctly installed and updated.
TogglerI activated my Product Key on one computer and now I need to use BitVoicer or BitVoicer Server on another computer. Can I transfer my Product Key to another computer?
No, you cannot. Once a Product Key is activated, it is not possible to transfer it or use it on another computer. If you need to use BitVoicer or BitVoicer Server on another computer, you will have to acquire another Product Key.
